ASUU STRIKE SUSPENDED!!!

ASUU STRIKE SUSPENDED!!

ASUU Bars Members From Participating In 2019 Elections
  1. Refusal to honor the 2009 agreement.
  2. 2013 MOU; funding for the revitalization of public universities; earned academic allowances grossing 220 billion Naira.

These are the reasons the union embarked on an industrial action on the 5th of November 2018 but after a closed meeting with Senator Chris Ngige and the labor shareholders, the academic staff union of universities has called for a suspension of the strike.

Senator Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, says the Federal Government has initiated empowerment programmes to engage unemployed youths against the proposed N5,000 monthly stipend.

ASUU tweeted on their official handle @ASUUNGR and quote " The NEC has decided that the strike has been suspended. Academic activities resume tomorrow."

In a following tweet, the union noted and quote "before you un-follow, remember that this is a suspension not an outright call-off. If the government reneges on our memorandum of agreement, @ASUUNGR will be embark on another industrial action with full force''.

ASUU's three month strike has officially been suspended students, guess we are heading back to school.

What are your thoughts and comments on the issue? Do you feel like its anti-climatic, that ASUU should have held out?. Do you feel like they made the right decision to suspend? Let us know in the comments section, love to hear from you.
